This is public health.

What is public health? It's everywhere and affects everyone, but ironically, many people don't know what it is.

Enter THIS IS PUBLIC HEALTH, a cool campaign of the Association of Schools of Public Health to educate people about what public health is and how it's woven into their daily lives.

Thinking about working in public health? The campaign also educates about public health careers and how to get into them.

And I can't forget the most fun part! Check out the stickers (above) and the public health stuff people have stuck them to.

Hi Kate! I've been reading your blog, great stuff! I'm interested in going to school to get an MPH, very interested in health education and possibly health administration... I've been doing research for quite sometime now but I don't think I'm ready to go back to school, because I feel that I lack public health experience, what are some things I can do before I go back to school? Interships? Research? Where can I find opportunities to get experience before going back? Any advice would be helpful, thanks

Hi, Fareen -- so glad you're finding my posts helpful! Why don't you shoot me an email at levin263@umn.edu and we can chat.

But for now, volunteering and/or interning worked wonders for me. I didn't have a public health background but took a couple of classes during my senior year of college, then I volunteered fulltime for a year at a community health nonprofit through the AmeriCorps VISTA program before going back to school. I'd HIGHLY recommend doing something like that to get your foot in the door.

Good luck!!!
